Caol Ila

Caol Ila is Scots Gaelic for "Sound of Islay" and is pronounced "cull-eela". Founded in 1846 by Hector Henderson, the Caol Ila distillery has changed hands several times over the years, but today has become the biggest producer of whisky on the island, though a large majority of this whisky is used in blended whiskies.

Despite this, Caol Ila produces a small amount for use in expressions of their own. These whiskies have often been well received at spirit ratings competitions in recent years.
