Gallo Family

The Gallo Family Vineyards and Winery were established in California in 1933, shortly after the repeal of prohibition. Brothers Ernest and Julio Gallo rented a warehouse and winemaking equipment on credit, sourcing grapes from local growers on promise of payment when the wine was sold.

The brothers' passion for wine grew The Gallo Family Vineyards into America's largest family-owned winery and the largest exporter of California wines. The family is widely regarded as one of the wine industry's great pioneers.
