Isle of Jura

The Jura distillery on the island of Jura in the Inner Hebrides first opened in 1810, though the people of the island had been entitled to distil whisky for their own personal consumption long before that until it was banned in 1781. The Jura distillery fell into disuse and disrepair, until two local estate owners rebuilt it in 1963 bringing whisky production back to Jura.

The new owners installed new taller stills to the building allowing them to create a mix of different malts, drinks that have taken home a number of awards at the International Wine & Spirits Competition. For those willing to make the journey to the Jura pub, the distillery offers a free dram every month for life.
